Marine Fish Culture
Published in Hardcover by Kluwer Academic Publishers (October, 1998)
Author: John W. Tucker
Average review score:

The best book on fish aquaculture
This is the best aquaculture book I have read. The data, theory, and methods to be found in it surpass all that can be found elsewhere on the subject. The exhaustive bibliography is one of the largest and most relevant that I have seen. It is a "bible" for the marine fish culturist.

The Massachusetts Historical Society: A Bicentennial History 1791-1991
Published in Hardcover by Massachusetts Historical Society (December, 1997)
Authors: Louis Leonard Tucker and Lois Leonard Tucker
Average review score:

witty, personable-often hilarious- historical telling
If you have assumed that historical accounts of any organization must by definition be deadly, disabuse yourself of that assumption immediately. Tucker's account of the individuals who created and drove this first of American historical societies reveals much about Boston and the men (and white men only) who sought to record not just Massachusetts history but the history of the United States.

Meet My Grandmother She's a United States Senator
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (September, 2000)
Authors: Lisa Tucker McElroy, Eileen Feinstein Mariano, and Joel Benjamin
Average review score:

Children and Government
This book is very appealing to all ages. My granddaughter who is 4 years old received it for an Easter gift. She loved the way it was presented. Short and to the point statements about the Senator's job. The pictures are interesting and make you want to read about this person and what she does.

This book encourages older children to look at our government and want to know more.

On the whole it makes a very important political position understandable and fun to read about through Eileen's eye.

I would recommend this book to ages 3 to 15.

Meet My Grandmother, She's a Supreme Court Justice (Grandmother's at Work)

A Great Book for Girls
Even in this day and age, young girls need to know that any door can be opened with a bit of pushing. This book not only brings to life a great role model, it shows that she is a real person. Ms. McElroy's simple, spare prose never condescends, but clearly sketches both the professional and family persona of her subject. It is a book that will be treasured by the owner and her (or even his) parents. If this is the beginning of a series, I look forward to the next one -- the author has found a valuable place on our bookshelves and in our hearts.

Miss Susie Slagle's (Maryland Paperback Bookshelf)
Published in Paperback by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (March, 1987)
Authors: Augusta Tucker and John Houseman
Average review score:

Viewing the historyof medicine as it unfolded
What a wonderful surprise when one stumbles upon a gem of a book. Miss Susie Slagle's is a wonderfully told combination of school-boy story (Johns Hopkins Medical School), history of medicine--the history of early Johns Hopkins hospital is the history of modern medicine in America--and early 20th century romance. I recommend it for all who love seeing the past through the eyes of its participants, even if fictional.

Moonlight and Mill Whistles

Author: Terry Ward Tucker

I really loved it! All my friends are reading it now.
I'm in the 7th grade and read about this book in our local newspaper. My mother bought a signed copy somehow and suggested (strongly) that I read it. I loved the story of the gypsy and the boy in the mill. This was a lot better than the stuff the teachers make us read.

Museology
Published in Hardcover by Aperture (April, 1989)
Authors: Richard Ross, Marcia Tucker, and David Mellor
Average review score:

One of the Best phototographic books I've owned.
I owned this book back in the early nineties and never got tired of looking through it! It inspired my own photography time and time again. Unfortunately it was destroyed in a flood 3 years ago, and I've searched in vain to find another.

The book is comprised mainly of a series of iconic photographs taken in the back rooms of museums from around the world and in several Edwardian-era museums, now closed, but still quite haunting in the way they still stand just like the day when they closed up shop years ago. Photographs of cobweb-covered stuffed lion, birds and rhinos in poses they've held for maybe 100 years TOTALLY absorb the viewer. What an eye this Ross guy has! If you can see a copy, you'll want to own it. If you own it, you'll show it to your friends like a trophy.

I hope to find another copy someday, because I nearly wore out the pages on the first one before the water took it first.

The National Childbirth Trust Book of Pregnancy, Birth, and Parenthood
Published in Hardcover by Oxford Univ Pr (April, 1996)
Author: Glynnis Tucker
Average review score:

A got-to-have book
I bought this book when I was expecting my first daughter (in the UK), and it was one of the most comprehensive guides I had. I refered to it again and again, and yet more when I was expecting my second daughter. There wasn't anything I had an issue with that it didn't cover. However, I feel I should add I'd never have relied on the book alone - it's a great supplemental read. Plus, as my mum pointed out to me, re the parenthood part, the baby hasn't read any books so remember it's only a guideline!

Nature Quest
Published in Hardcover by Review & Herald Pub Assn (December, 1994)
Authors: James A. Tucker and Priscilla M. Tucker
Average review score:

Christian Devotional Breaks Tradition Using Nature
Having grown up experiencing many types of devotional-style books, I have quickly learned what I like and don't like. I do not like books heavy on religious rhetoric and empty language, quoting one Bible verse after another, with a small anecdote if you're lucky. This is no such book. Whether or not you consider yourself a nature-lover, experiencing any of these 366 devotionals will give you a new perspective on the world of Nature. Each story is primarily a portrayal of some element of nature and how incredible it is with a small but necessary religious application at the end. The author uses God's natural world to draw the conclusions, rather than other authors who attempt to push their own conclusions on the reader. An excellent read, and good luck trying to read one per day!
